Göteborgs Kex is a historic Swedish brand founded in 1888 in Kungälv by Leopold Groth. For over a century, the company operated as Sweden's premier biscuit manufacturer, producing iconic products like Ballerina, Singoalla, and Digestive. The brand has deep roots in Swedish culinary culture, specifically in the Scandinavian tradition of 'fika'.
In recent years, the brand has undergone significant structural changes. While it remains a Swedish heritage brand in identity and market presence, the manufacturing operations were relocated. In 2022, the legendary factory in Kungälv was closed, and production was moved to a high-capacity facility in Riga, Latvia, to optimize the supply chain. Today, the brand is owned by the Orkla Group, a leading Nordic industrial conglomerate, ensuring that while the logistics are international, the brand's recipes and Swedish standards remain intact.
