MAX (commonly referred to as Max Hamburgare) is a Swedish hamburger restaurant chain founded in 1968 in Gällivare by Curt Bergfors and Britta Andersson. The product "Max hamburger" refers to the quick-service restaurant hamburger sold across the MAX restaurant network.
MAX hamburgers are prepared in each restaurant using local kitchens and supply chains. Production is therefore primarily in Sweden (where the majority of outlets and corporate operations are based), but burgers are produced in other countries where MAX operates through company-owned or franchised restaurants (for example Norway, Denmark, Poland, Egypt and selected other markets).
The original company behind the brand is MAX Burgers AB (formerly Max Hamburgerrestauranger AB). The company remains family-owned — the Bergfors family retains ownership and executive leadership — and operates as a privately held Swedish company headquartered in Luleå. MAX positions itself on product quality, menu variety (including vegetarian and vegan options) and sustainability efforts within the quick-service segment.
Because MAX is a restaurant chain rather than a packaged consumer good, there is no single manufacturing country printed on a package; instead, the hamburger is produced locally at each restaurant using ingredients sourced through MAX’s regional supply chains. For data systems that require a single country, the most accurate description is that the product is primarily produced in Sweden with production also occurring in other countries where the chain has operations.
