Marabou Schweizernöt is a classic Swedish confectionery that combines smooth milk chocolate with crunchy hazelnuts. The brand Marabou was established in Sweden in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, who had previously launched a similar chocolate recipe in Norway under the name Freia. The name 'Marabou' was chosen for the Swedish market, inspired by the stork depicted in the logo. Production began in 1919, following World War I cocoa shortages. Over time, Marabou expanded its product range and became a beloved brand in Sweden. In 1993, Marabou merged with Freia and was acquired by Kraft Foods for 3 billion Norwegian kroner. Today, Marabou operates as a subsidiary of Mondelez International, a global leader in the snack and beverage industry, headquartered in the United States. The Schweizernöt variant, featuring milk chocolate with hazelnuts, remains one of Marabou's most iconic flavors, cherished by chocolate lovers for its delightful combination of creamy chocolate and nutty crunch.
