Amaro Lucano is a traditional Italian herbal liqueur created in 1894 by Pasquale Vena in Pisticci, Basilicata, Italy. The recipe, a closely guarded family secret, blends over 30 herbs, including gentian, wormwood, orange peel, cinnamon, and aloe, resulting in a bittersweet flavor profile. Initially produced in a family bakery, the company expanded in 1950 under the management of Vena's sons, Leonardo and Giuseppe. Today, Lucano 1894 S.r.l. continues to produce Amaro Lucano in Pisticci, maintaining its heritage and commitment to quality. The liqueur is enjoyed neat, over ice, or as a base for cocktails, and has received several awards, including a Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2014 and a Silver Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2014. The brand remains under the ownership of the Vena family, with no known subsidiaries.
