Marabou is a renowned Swedish chocolate brand established in 1916. The brand was founded by Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, who had previously introduced the same chocolate recipe under the name Freia in Norway. Due to the success of Freia, Holst expanded into Sweden, creating Marabou. The first Marabou chocolate produced was milk chocolate (Mjölkchoklad), made using the same recipe as Freia. Over time, Marabou has become a staple in Swedish confectionery, known for its creamy milk chocolate and various flavor variants. In the 1970s, production moved from Sundbyberg to Upplands Väsby, where it continues today. Marabou is currently owned by Mondelez International, Inc., a leading global snack company headquartered in the United States. The Swedish subsidiary responsible for Marabou is Mondelez Sverige AB.
