Olympia Marathon 2023

The Olympia Marathon is an annual marathon event held in Greece, specifically in the region of Ancient Olympia. The 2023 edition was scheduled for March 25-26, 2023, and was organized by the Olympia Marathon Association in collaboration with the Region of Western Greece and the sports association of Korivos Amaliadas. The event was under the auspices and support of the Municipalities of Ilida, Pyrgos, and Ancient Olympia. The marathon aimed to provide runners from Greece and abroad the opportunity to compete in the marathon distance in the birthplace of the Olympic Ideals, connecting the Olympic Spirit and the Marathon. The event was dedicated to Charilaos Vasilakos, the first marathon runner in history and the second winner in the 1st Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens. The program included various races such as the Marathon (Amaliada – Ancient Olympia), Half Marathon (Pyrgos – Ancient Olympia), Ancient Elis Road Race 12.6 km, Pyrgos Road Race 5 km, and 2 km races in Amaliada and Ancient Olympia. Cultural and other events were also developed around the organization to engage the local community of the Ilia prefecture and promote the region at all levels.
