Milka is a world-renowned chocolate brand easily recognizable by its signature lilac packaging and the 'Milka Cow.' It was originally founded in Switzerland in 1901 by Philippe Suchard. The brand name is a portmanteau of the German words for milk and cocoa ('Milch' and 'Kakao'). Although it has Swiss origins and is famous for using Alpine milk, most of its large-scale production shifted to Germany and other European nations over the decades.

Today, Milka is part of the global portfolio of Mondelēz International, a multi-billion dollar American snack food conglomerate. While there is no longer a dedicated factory in Switzerland, the brand maintains its reputation by sourcing ingredients meant to evoke the quality of the Alpine region. Ownership changed hands several times through corporate mergers, moving from Suchard to Kraft Foods before finally landing with Mondelēz.
