Vivera is a Dutch brand specializing in plant-based meat alternatives, founded in 1990 as a subsidiary of ENKCO (The Dutch Butchers Combination). Initially, Vivera produced vegetarian products alongside meat, leveraging ENKCO's expertise. In 2017, Vivera shifted its focus entirely to plant-based products and sold ENKCO. By 2021, Vivera had become Europe's third-largest plant-based food producer, with products available in over 25,000 supermarkets across 25 European countries. In April 2021, JBS S.A., a Brazilian multinational and the world's largest protein producer, acquired Vivera for €341 million. This acquisition allowed Vivera to operate as a standalone business unit within JBS, maintaining its current leadership and strategic direction. In March 2025, Vivera acquired The Vegetarian Butcher from Unilever, further strengthening its position in the plant-based sector. The combined entity, known as The Vegetarian Butcher Collective, continues to operate under its respective brand names, with Vivera focusing on its plant-based meat alternatives and The Vegetarian Butcher expanding its global presence.
