Quorn Meat Substitute

Quorn is a pioneering brand in the meat-substitute market, famous for its use of mycoprotein derived from the fungus Fusarium venenatum. The brand was born out of a 1960s initiative to find sustainable protein sources to combat predicted global food shortages. Following a decade of evaluation, it was officially launched in the UK in 1985 as a joint venture between Rank Hovis McDougall (RHM) and Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI).

While the brand's production and heritage are deeply rooted in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, its ownership has transitioned through several major global entities, including AstraZeneca and Premier Foods. Since 2015, Quorn has been a key part of the international portfolio of the Philippine food giant Monde Nissin Corporation. Today, Quorn is a leader in the vegetarian and vegan food sector, offering everything from frozen mince and fillets to ready meals and snacks.

Manufacturing remains concentrated in the United Kingdom, particularly at its sites in Stokesley and Billingham, which house massive fermentation towers dedicated to the production of mycoprotein. Despite its British industrial roots, the brand is now managed with a global strategy to expand its sustainable footprint across Europe, North America, and Asia.
