The company was founded in 1922 by Hans Hansen and has been family-owned for four generations. Hansens Is is the only producer in Denmark that starts with raw milk, ensuring their ice cream is made exclusively with fresh milk and cream. In March 2025, Den Sociale Kapitalfond, a Danish investment firm, acquired a 60% stake in Hansens Is, with the founding brothers, Anders and Rasmus Eibye Hansen, retaining a 40% stake. This partnership aims to strengthen both the economic and social aspects of the company, focusing on expanding its presence in Denmark and neighboring countries, enhancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, and increasing employment opportunities for young people and adults on the margins of the labor market.
