Metaxa is a renowned Greek brandy introduced in 1888 by Spyros Metaxa. It is crafted by blending aged wine distillates with sweet Muscat wines from the Aegean island of Samos and infusing Mediterranean botanicals, including rose petals. The spirit is aged in Limousin oak casks, resulting in its distinctive amber hue and complex flavor profile. Metaxa offers various expressions, such as 5 Stars, 7 Stars, 12 Stars, and Private Reserve, each differing in aging and taste characteristics. In 2000, Metaxa became part of the French luxury spirits company Rémy Cointreau, which also owns other prestigious brands like Rémy Martin cognac and Cointreau liqueur. The brand is produced in Greece, with its distillery located in Kifisia, a northern suburb of Athens. Metaxa is exported to over 40 countries worldwide, making it the most famous Greek spirit globally.
