GANT is a premium lifestyle brand with a heritage deeply rooted in American East Coast collegiate style. Founded in 1949 by Bernard Gantmacher in New Haven, Connecticut, the brand originally built its reputation as a master shirtmaker, famous for introducing the button-down collar and the 'locker loop' to the mainstream. These innovations helped define the iconic 'Ivy League Look' of the 1950s and 60s.

Over the decades, the brand's ownership shifted from the United States to international hands. In the 1980s, the Swedish company Pyramid Sportswear acquired the rights to design and market GANT globally, and by 1999, they acquired the entire brand operations, moving the headquarters to Stockholm, Sweden. Today, GANT is owned by the Swiss private holding company Maus Frères, which also oversees other major retail brands. While the brand maintains a design ethos centered on its American roots and Swedish refinement, its manufacturing is distributed globally across countries such as China, Portugal, Turkey, India, and Vietnam, reflecting its status as an international luxury player.
