Connemara is a distinctive peated single malt Irish whiskey produced by the Cooley Distillery, located on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth, Ireland. Established in 1987 by entrepreneur John Teeling, Cooley Distillery is renowned for its traditional distilling methods and high-quality spirits. Connemara stands out as the only widely available Irish peated single malt whiskey, offering a unique smoky character reminiscent of Scotch whiskies. The production process involves drying malted barley over peat fires, imparting a distinct peaty flavor and aroma to the whiskey. After distillation, Connemara is matured in bourbon casks, allowing it to develop a complex profile with notes of sweet malt, honey, and subtle peat smoke. In 2012, Cooley Distillery was acquired by Suntory Global Spirits, a subsidiary of Suntory Holdings, a Japanese multinational brewing and distilling company headquartered in Osaka, Japan. This acquisition has further expanded the global reach of Connemara, introducing its unique flavor to whiskey enthusiasts worldwide. Connemara's commitment to quality and tradition has been recognized with over 20 medals in major spirits competitions since 2012, solidifying its reputation as a premium Irish whiskey.
