Drambuie Liqueur

Drambuie is a legendary Scotch whisky-based liqueur that traces its origins back to the 18th century. According to brand history, the recipe was gifted to Captain John MacKinnon by Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) after the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The name is derived from the Scots Gaelic phrase 'An Dram Buidheach,' which means 'the drink that satisfies.'

For generations, the MacKinnon family maintained the secret recipe, eventually beginning commercial production in the early 20th century in Edinburgh. The liqueur is a complex blend of aged Scotch whisky, heather honey, and a proprietary mix of herbs and spices.

In 2014, the brand was acquired by William Grant & Sons, a family-owned independent distiller. Today, Drambuie continues to be produced and bottled in Scotland, maintaining its heritage as a premium spirit essential for classic cocktails like the Rusty Nail.
