Douwe Egberts Aroma Rood coffee

Douwe Egberts is a historic Dutch brand that traces its roots back to 1753 in Joure, Friesland, where Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses founded a small grocery shop. Over centuries, the brand evolved into a global leader in the coffee and tea industry, becoming particularly famous for its 'Aroma Rood' blend, which is a staple in Dutch households.

While the brand remains deeply connected to its Dutch heritage, its ownership has undergone significant corporate shifts. After being part of the American Sara Lee Corporation for decades, it was spun off as D.E Master Blenders 1753. Today, Douwe Egberts is the flagship brand of JDE Peet's, a multinational powerhouse headquartered in the Netherlands. JDE Peet's itself is largely controlled by JAB Holding Company, a major investment firm based in Luxembourg. Most of the coffee for the Dutch market is still roasted in Utrecht, though the company operates numerous facilities globally.
