Android Operating System

Android is a mobile operating system based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open-source software, designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. The platform has become the most widely used mobile operating system in the world, powering billions of devices across various manufacturers.

The history of Android began in 2003 when it was founded by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White in Palo Alto, California. The original intent was to develop an advanced operating system for digital cameras, but the focus quickly shifted toward the competitive mobile phone market. In 2005, the brand was acquired by a major technology giant, which significantly accelerated its development.

Today, the brand is owned and maintained by Google, which leads the Open Handset Alliance—a consortium of technology companies committed to advancing open standards for mobile devices. While the software is developed in the United States, the physical devices that run Android are manufactured by various hardware partners globally, including Samsung, Google (Pixel), and Xiaomi.
