Batavus is a Dutch bicycle manufacturer founded in 1904 by Andries Gaastra in Heerenveen, Netherlands. The company began by selling bicycles under the Batavus brand and expanded its product line to include mopeds and motorcycles. In the 1970s, Batavus was the leading manufacturer of bicycles and mopeds in the Netherlands, exporting 55% of its production. In 1986, Batavus was acquired by ATAG Holding, which later became Accell Group N.V. in 1998. Accell Group N.V. is a Dutch bicycle company based in Heerenveen, Netherlands, and is a leader in the European e-bike market. The company owns a large portfolio of bicycle brands, including Batavus, Babboe, Haibike, Koga, Lapierre, Raleigh, and Sparta.
