Ritter Sport Chocolate

Ritter Sport is an iconic German chocolate brand, world-famous for its unique square-shaped bars. The brand was founded in 1912 by Alfred Eugen Ritter and Clara Ritter in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. The specific "Ritter Sport" name and square design were introduced in 1932 after Clara Ritter suggested creating a chocolate bar that could fit into a sports jacket pocket without breaking, yet maintain the same weight as a traditional rectangular bar.

The brand remains a family-owned enterprise, managed by the Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG. Most of the production still takes place at their historic headquarters in Waldenbuch, Germany. In 2019, the company expanded its manufacturing footprint by acquiring a production site in Breitenbrunn, Austria. Looking into 2026 and beyond, the company continues to operate as an independent family business, recently expanding its global footprint by establishing dedicated subsidiaries in markets like the United States and acquiring brands such as Chocolove to strengthen its premium chocolate portfolio.
