Hanuta is a well-known German brand of hazelnut wafers, famous for its crunchy texture and rich cocoa-hazelnut filling sandwiched between two wafers. The name itself is an acronym for Haselnusstafel (hazelnut bar).
Introduced in 1959, the brand was created by the Italian confectionery giant Ferrero as part of its expansion into the German market. Today, it remains one of the flagship products of the Ferrero Group. While Ferrero is an international company, the production of Hanuta for the European market is primarily centered in Germany, specifically at the large Ferrero manufacturing facility in Stadtallendorf, Hesse.
