Fisherman's Friend is a globally recognized brand of strong menthol pastilles. It was originally developed in 1865 by James Lofthouse, a pharmacist in the fishing port of Fleetwood, Lancashire. The product was designed specifically for deep-sea fishermen to help relieve respiratory problems caused by the harsh conditions in the North Atlantic.
The brand has remained a family-owned legacy, currently maintained by the Lofthouse family company, Lofthouse of Fleetwood Ltd. The production remains centralized in Fleetwood, England, where the factory produces over five billion lozenges a year to be exported to more than 100 countries. While many confections have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Fisherman's Friend remains unique as an independent, heritage-driven British manufacturer.
