Tom's of Maine is a pioneer in the natural personal care industry, originally founded in 1970 by Tom and Kate Chappell in Kennebunk, Maine. The brand was built on a philosophy of creating effective products using natural ingredients and sustainable practices. It became widely recognized for its commitment to social and environmental responsibility, which eventually led to it becoming a Certified B Corporation.

In 2006, the brand was acquired by the consumer goods giant Colgate-Palmolive.
