Scott is a prominent brand in the cycling industry, known for its innovative designs and high-performance bicycles. The company was founded in 1958 by Ed Scott, an engineer and skier from Sun Valley, Idaho, who revolutionized the ski industry with his aluminum ski poles. In 1978, Scott expanded its operations to Europe, establishing its headquarters in Givisiez, Switzerland. Over the years, Scott has diversified its product range to include bicycles, winter sports equipment, motorsports gear, running shoes, and sportswear. The brand has been recognized for its contributions to cycling, introducing significant innovations such as the first aerodynamic handlebar in 1989, which was famously used by Greg LeMond to win the 1989 Tour de France. In 1991, Scott introduced the Unishock suspension fork, enhancing mountain bike performance. The company has also been involved in professional cycling sponsorships, notably supporting the Mitchelton-Scott team until 2020. In 2015, the Korean conglomerate Youngone Corporation acquired a 50.1% stake in Scott Sports, with the previous Swiss owner, Beat Zaugg, retaining 49.9%. This acquisition has allowed Scott to leverage Youngone's extensive resources and global reach, further solidifying its position in the cycling market. Today, Scott continues to innovate and produce high-quality bicycles, catering to a wide range of cycling disciplines and rider preferences.
