Founded in 1946 in Alba, Italy, by Pietro Ferrero, the Ferrero Group has evolved from a small pastry shop into the world's second-largest chocolate and confectionery company. The brand's global expansion was spearheaded by Pietro's son, Michele Ferrero, who introduced iconic products like Nutella and Ferrero Rocher.
Today, Ferrero operates 37 manufacturing plants across five continents to meet global demand, with major production facilities located in Italy, Germany, Poland, Canada, and Australia. In 2024, the company further strengthened its footprint by opening its first North American chocolate factory in Bloomington, Illinois.
As of 2026, Ferrero remains a privately held, family-owned enterprise. It is controlled by the Ferrero family through the Luxembourg-based holding company Ferrero International S.A. Giovanni Ferrero, the grandson of the founder, serves as Executive Chairman and oversees the company's long-term strategy, including its recent diversification into biscuits, ice cream, and healthy snacks through the acquisition of brands like Wells Enterprises (Blue Bunny) and WK Kellogg Co.'s cereal business.
