Gorenje is a major European manufacturer of household appliances, originally established in 1950 in the village of Gorenje, Slovenia. For decades, it was one of the largest industrial corporations in Yugoslavia and later Slovenia, known for its high-quality white goods including refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens.
Historically, Gorenje produced the vast majority of its units in Velenje, Slovenia. However, following its acquisition by the Chinese multinational Hisense in 2018, the manufacturing footprint has expanded globally. While top-tier models and R&D remain centered in Slovenia, many components and specific product lines are now manufactured in Serbia or Hisense facilities in China to optimize production costs and reach global markets.
Today, Gorenje operates as a key premium brand within the Hisense Group portfolio. This ownership transition has integrated Slovenian engineering with Chinese large-scale manufacturing capabilities, ensuring the brand remains competitive in the modern appliance market.
