Frank's RedHot Original Sauce is a hot sauce made from a blend of aged cayenne red peppers, distilled vinegar, water, salt, and garlic powder. It was introduced in 1920 by the Frank Tea and Spice Company, founded by Jacob Frank in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1917, Frank partnered with the Estilette Pepper Farm in Louisiana, where they combined spices, vinegar, garlic, and cayenne peppers to create the original blend. The sauce gained fame as the primary ingredient in the first Buffalo wing recipe in 1964. In 1977, Frank's RedHot was sold to Durkee Famous Foods, and in 1995, it was acquired by Reckitt Benckiser. In August 2017, McCormick & Company, a global leader in the spice industry, acquired Frank's RedHot as part of a $4.2 billion deal that included French's mustard and other brands. Frank's RedHot is primarily produced in the United States, with manufacturing facilities in Springfield, Missouri. The brand is known for its distinctive red bottle and is a popular choice for adding heat and flavor to various dishes, including wings, sandwiches, and dips.
