eMule is a free and open-source peer-to-peer file sharing application for Microsoft Windows, developed by Hendrik Breitkreuz (also known as Merkur) in May 2002. It connects to both the eDonkey network and the Kad network, allowing users to download and share files efficiently. eMule is written in C++ using the Microsoft Foundation Classes and is released under the GNU General Public License. Over time, a community of developers, known as the eMule-Team, has taken over the maintenance and development of the project, ensuring its continued functionality and updates. As of 2023, eMule remains one of the most popular file-sharing clients worldwide, with a large and active user base.
