Crest is a brand of toothpaste and other oral hygiene products introduced in the United States in 1955. It was developed by a team at Indiana University, including Joseph C. Muhler, Harry G. Day, and William H. Nebergall, who formulated the original composition containing stannous fluoride. Procter & Gamble (P&G) recognized the potential of this innovation and began marketing Crest nationally in 1956. Over the years, Crest has expanded its product line to include various toothpaste variants, toothbrushes, mouthwash, dental floss, and whitening products. Manufacturing of Crest products occurs in multiple countries, including the United States and Mexico, with the main plant located in Greensboro, North Carolina, and additional production in Guanajuato, Mexico. As of 2025, Procter & Gamble continues to own and operate the Crest brand, maintaining its position as a leading provider of oral care products worldwide.
