Opera Browser

Opera is a multi-platform web browser originally developed by the Norwegian company Opera Software AS. First released in 1995 as a research project at Telenor, it became one of the pioneers in browser innovation, introducing features such as tabs, speed dial, and integrated ad-blocking. Over the decades, it evolved from using its own Presto engine to the Chromium-based Blink engine used today.

In 2016, the consumer browser business was acquired by a Chinese consortium led by Kunlun Tech Co., Ltd. While the brand has its historical roots in Norway and continues to maintain a significant presence in Oslo, its ultimate corporate ownership and strategic direction are headquartered in China. The browser is developed by global teams across Norway, Poland, and China, reflecting its status as a distributed international technology product under its parent company, Kunlun Tech.
