Haribo is a globally recognized German confectionery brand, most famous for inventing the gummy bear. Founded in 1920 by Hans Riegel Sr. in Bonn, Germany, the company name is an acronym for Hans Riegel Bonn. The brand gained international fame for its 'Goldbears' and has since expanded into hundreds of different gummy and licorice varieties.
Haribo operates as a family-owned enterprise and has maintained its independence for over a century. While its headquarters and primary manufacturing plants remain in Germany, the company has expanded its production footprint significantly. It now operates several high-tech manufacturing facilities across Europe (including the UK, France, and Turkey) and opened its first North American production facility in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, to meet growing global demand.
Today, Haribo remains under the ownership of the Riegel family. The company is known for its consistent quality standards and its 'Happy World of Haribo' marketing campaign, which has been localized into dozens of languages. It continues to be a market leader in the fruit gummy segment worldwide.
