Persil detergent

Persil is a historic laundry detergent brand launched in 1907 by Henkel & Cie in Germany. It gained fame as the first self-acting laundry detergent, significantly simplifying housework by eliminating the need for hard scrubbing. The brand's identity is unique due to its split ownership; while Henkel owns and markets Persil across most of Continental Europe, the Middle East, and other global regions, Unilever holds the rights to the brand in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Latin America, China, Australia, and New Zealand.

Manufacturing takes place in various regional facilities to serve local markets. In the United States, Henkel introduced the brand more recently to compete in the premium segment, frequently producing it domestically for that market. Because of these dual ownership agreements, the chemical formulas and marketing strategies often differ between the Henkel-produced and Unilever-produced versions, even though they share the iconic name.
