S'well was founded in 2010 by Sarah Kauss in New York City with the goal of eliminating single-use plastic bottles. The brand became a fashion-forward pioneer in the insulated drinkware market, known for its signature triple-layered, vacuum-insulated stainless steel design that keeps drinks cold for 24 hours or hot for 12.

While the brand originated in the United States and maintains its creative and corporate headquarters there, the manufacturing of the physical products is primarily conducted in China. This is common for high-grade stainless steel vacuumware due to the specialized manufacturing infrastructure required for triple-wall insulation.

In 2022, S'well was acquired by Lifetime Brands, Inc., a leading global designer and distributor of branded kitchenware and home products. Under this ownership, S'well continues to expand its reach through Lifetime Brands' extensive global distribution network, maintaining its status as a premium lifestyle brand while benefiting from the scale of a larger corporate parent.
