Philadelphia Cream Cheese is a renowned brand of cream cheese that originated in the United States. Despite its name, it was invented in New York State in 1872 by William Lawrence, a dairyman from Chester, New York. Lawrence was attempting to make Neufchâtel, a soft cheese, but by adding an excessive amount of cream, he created a richer, more spreadable cheese, which became known as cream cheese. The product was marketed as 'Philadelphia Cream Cheese' starting in 1880. In 1928, the brand was acquired by Kraft Foods, which later merged with Heinz to form Kraft Heinz. Today, Philadelphia Cream Cheese is produced in multiple countries, with Kraft Heinz overseeing its global distribution. The brand is recognized for its creamy texture and is a staple in various culinary applications, from spreading on bagels to being used in baking and cooking.
