Tulipán is a storied margarine brand that has been a staple in Spanish households for decades. Originally created focused on providing a plant-based alternative to butter, it gained immense popularity in Spain under the ownership of British-Dutch giant Unilever.
In 2018, as part of a strategic shift to divest its spreads business, Unilever sold the brand to Upfield. Upfield is now the world’s leading producer of plant-based spreads and cheeses, focusing on sustainable and healthy alternatives to traditional dairy. While the production can take place across various European facilities to serve different markets, it maintains a strong manufacturing and distribution presence in Spain to cater to its core consumer base.
