In May 2016, RONA was acquired by Lowe's Companies Inc., a U.S.-based home improvement giant. However, in November 2022, Lowe's agreed to sell its Canadian operations, including RONA, to Sycamore Partners, a U.S.-based private equity firm specializing in consumer and retail investments. The sale was completed in February 2023. Following the acquisition, RONA announced plans to convert Lowe's-branded stores to the RONA+ banner, with the conversion process completed by March 2024. This strategic move aimed to consolidate the brand's presence in the Canadian market and leverage its strong heritage while offering enhanced services and a broader product range to customers nationwide.
