Albalact is one of the most prominent dairy brands in Romania, with a rich history rooted in the Alba County region. Founded in 1971 as a state-owned enterprise, the company underwent privatization in 1999, which propelled its growth into a market leader. It is best known for its diverse portfolio of dairy products, including the popular Zuzu and Fulga brands, which cater to a wide range of consumer preferences from fresh milk to traditional Romanian sour cream (smântână).

The brand's production is centered in Romania, primarily at its modern processing facility in Oiejdea, Alba County. This strategic local presence allows Albalact to source fresh milk from local farmers, maintaining a strong connection to its Romanian heritage while adhering to international quality standards.

In 2016, Albalact transitioned from being a locally-owned powerhouse to becoming part of a global dairy leader when it was acquired by the French multinational Group Lactalis. Today, while the brand maintains its distinct Romanian identity and local production, it operates as a key subsidiary of the Lactalis group, benefiting from the French company's extensive global distribution network and expertise in dairy innovation.
