Poiana is a renowned Romanian chocolate brand that traces its origins to the company Poiana – Produse Zaharoase S.A., based in Brașov, Romania. In 1994, the Swiss food group Kraft Jacobs Suchard acquired an 82% stake in Poiana, marking its entry into the Romanian market. This acquisition led to significant investments aimed at modernizing the factories and expanding production capacity. However, in 2009, Kraft Foods decided to close the Poiana factory in Brașov, consolidating production to other facilities outside Romania, resulting in the loss of 440 jobs. The brand's production was subsequently moved to Bulgaria. In 2012, Kraft Foods underwent a corporate restructuring, splitting into two entities: Kraft Foods Group, focusing on North American grocery products, and Mondelez International, concentrating on global snacks and confectionery. As a result, Poiana became part of Mondelez International's portfolio. In 2015, Mondelez Romania attempted to sell the former Poiana chocolate factory in Brașov, which had been non-operational since 2009. Despite these changes, Poiana remains a beloved chocolate brand in Romania, known for its rich taste and quality.
