Gevalia Mellanrost Coffee

Gevalia is one of the most iconic coffee brands in Scandinavia, particularly in Sweden where it was founded in 1853 by Victor Theodor Engwall. The brand takes its name from the Latin word for the city of Gävle, where the company's main roasting facility is still located today. For decades, Gevalia was a family-owned business until it was acquired by General Foods (which later became part of Kraft Foods) in 1971.

In contemporary times, the brand's ownership has transitioned through major corporate restructuring in the global coffee market. Today, Gevalia is owned by JDE Peet's, a leading global tea and coffee company formed after the merger of Jacobs Douwe Egberts and Peet's Coffee. While the brand is popular internationally, the production for the Nordic market remains primarily centered at the roastery in Gävle, Sweden, maintaining its historical connection to its hometown.
