Freia Melkesjokolade

Freia is Norway's most beloved chocolate brand, deeply rooted in the country's national identity. Founded in 1889 by Johan Throne Holst, the brand became famous for its 'Melkesjokolade' (Milk Chocolate), which has been a staple in Norwegian households for over a century. The iconic factory is located in the Rodeløkka neighborhood of Oslo, where production continues to this day.

While the brand is a Norwegian icon, its ownership has transitioned over the years. In 1993, Freia was acquired by the Scandinavian company Marabou, which later became part of the global conglomerate Kraft Foods. Following a corporate spin-off in 2012, the ownership of Freia transferred to Mondelēz International. Despite these changes in international ownership, Freia maintains its status as a premier Scandinavian confectionery brand, priding itself on high-quality ingredients and traditional recipes.

Today, Freia is managed as a key brand within the Mondelēz portfolio, benefiting from a global distribution network while remaining focused on its core market in Norway and the broader Nordic region. The brand remains synonymous with Norwegian outdoor life, often associated with hiking and national celebrations.
