Schweppes is a renowned brand of carbonated beverages, including tonic water, founded in 1783 by Johann Jacob Schweppe in Geneva, Switzerland. The brand has a rich history, being one of the earliest forms of soft drinks, originally offering soda water. Over time, Schweppes expanded its product line to include various flavors such as lemonades, tonic waters, and ginger ales. In 1969, Schweppes merged with Cadbury to form Cadbury Schweppes. In 2008, the company was split, with its U.S. beverage unit becoming Keurig Dr Pepper, which now owns the Schweppes trademark in Canada and the United States. The Coca-Cola Company owns the Schweppes brand in several territories, including 21 European countries. In 22 other European countries, the brand is owned by Schweppes International Limited, a subsidiary of Suntory. In China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Swire's subsidiary Swire Coca-Cola produces Schweppes-branded beverages. The Japanese Asahi Group acquired Schweppes Australia in 2008 from Cadbury and owns the trademark in Australia. Today, Schweppes products are manufactured and distributed worldwide by various international conglomerates, depending on licensing and region, offering a diverse range of soft drinks enjoyed globally.
