Domaine Valma is a relatively new winery established in 2021 by Valentine and Stéphane Mathieu in the Fleurie appellation of Beaujolais, France. The name 'Valma' is an anagram of Valentine's first and last names and also combines 'Val' (valley in Old French) and 'Alma' (nourishing spirit in Latin). The estate spans 5.5 hectares, with vineyards planted on degraded pink granite soils ideal for the Gamay grape variety. The winery practices organic viticulture, currently in official conversion, employing traditional vine training methods such as goblet and éventail, alongside double cordon de royat pruning. The winemaking process involves manual harvesting, 100% whole-cluster fermentation in concrete tanks, and aging in both concrete tanks and used barrels. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration, with minimal sulfur dioxide added after malolactic fermentation. Domaine Valma's wines are known for their purity, elegance, and expression of the unique terroir of Fleurie.
