Tilda is a globally recognized premium brand known primarily for its high-quality Basmati rice. The company was founded in London, United Kingdom, in 1970 by the Thakrar family. Initially serving the needs of the growing South Asian community in the UK, Tilda pioneered the introduction of Basmati rice to the Western market, eventually becoming a household name synonymous with quality grains.
While the rice itself is sourced from traditional growing regions at the foothills of the Himalayas in India and Pakistan, the product processing, milling, and packaging have traditionally been centered at Tilda's state-of-the-art facilities in the United Kingdom. This ensures consistent quality control and adherence to international food safety standards before the products are exported to over 50 countries worldwide.
Over the decades, Tilda's ownership has transitioned through major corporate acquisitions. In 2014, the brand was acquired by the American organic and natural products company, Hain Celestial. Later, in 2019, Tilda was sold to the Spanish food giant Ebro Foods. Today, Tilda operates as a key subsidiary of Ebro Foods, benefiting from the parent company's extensive global distribution network while maintaining its specialized focus on premium rice varieties.
