Kappa is an Italian sportswear brand founded in 1967 in Turin, Italy, by Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT), a company established in 1916. Originally producing socks and underwear, MCT diversified into casual wear, leading to the creation of Robe di Kappa, which later became synonymous with casual and stylish sportswear. The name 'Kappa' was chosen as a nod to the Greek letter 'K,' symbolizing strength, resilience, and durability. The iconic 'Omini' logo, depicting a man and woman sitting back-to-back, was conceived during a photoshoot in 1969 and represents equality and mutual support between genders. In 1978, Kappa officially registered as a sportswear brand, marking its transition into the sports apparel market. Over the years, Kappa has expanded its product range to include clothing, footwear, and accessories, and has established a significant presence in the world of sports through sponsorships and partnerships, reflecting its deep roots in sports culture and commitment to excellence. Today, Kappa is part of BasicNet S.p.A., an Italian company that manages a portfolio of sportswear brands, including Robe di Kappa, Superga, and K-Way.
