Solstickan matches are one of Sweden's most iconic and recognizable household products. The brand was founded in 1936 by Einar Belvén, who commissioned the artist Einar Nerman to create the famous 'Solstickepojken' (The Sunstick Boy) illustration. The original mission of the brand was to support children and the elderly by donating a small portion of the proceeds from every matchbox sold to the Solstickan Foundation.
Historically, the matches were produced at Swedish Match's factory in Tidaholm, Sweden. Today, Swedish Match remains the manufacturer, maintaining a long-standing tradition of Swedish production for this specific brand. The brand has expanded beyond just matches to include home interior products, but the classic orange and blue matchbox remains its centerpiece. Ownership has remained within Swedish hands and is currently part of the global Philip Morris International portfolio following their acquisition of Swedish Match, though the brand operates with deep Swedish roots.
