Hemglass is a Swedish ice cream brand founded in 1968 by Eric Ericsson. It is renowned for its home delivery service, where ice cream is sold directly to consumers through light blue ice cream vans. This distribution method ensures that the ice cream reaches customers without spending time outside the freezer, maintaining its quality. Over the years, Hemglass expanded its operations to Denmark in 1976, Norway and Finland in 1993, and even the United Kingdom in certain regions from at least 1989 until the early 2000s. In 2002, Hemglass became a subsidiary of Nestlé. However, on December 31, 2013, Nestlé sold its Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish divisions to different companies. The Swedish division, Hemglass, was acquired by Varsego Sverige AB, a Swedish company that continues to operate the brand in Sweden. The Norwegian division was taken over by Isbjørn Is, and the Danish division was sold to a group of four investors, merging it with their company Viking Is. This combined entity was later sold to ice cream maker Premier Is, which was a former Nestlé subsidiary and is now owned by Food Union as of 2017. Hemglass is celebrated for its iconic jingle, which has been a familiar sound in Swedish neighborhoods since 1969, signaling the arrival of the ice cream van. The brand offers a wide range of ice cream products, including classic flavors and innovative options like sugar-reduced ice creams developed in collaboration with Bayn Europe. These sugar-reduced products have been well-received by customers seeking healthier alternatives without compromising on taste.
