Becel is a prominent brand of margarine and heart-healthy spreads that was originally developed in the 1960s by Unilever. The name is derived from the acronym BCL (Blood Cholesterol Lowering). The brand was created in response to medical requests for a fat spread that was low in saturated fats and high in polyunsaturated fats to promote heart health. It is marketed under the name Becel in many European and North American markets, including Canada and the Netherlands, and as Flora in the United Kingdom.

In 2018, Unilever sold its entire spreads division to the American private equity firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), which then founded Upfield to manage these brands. Today, Becel is manufactured in various regional facilities across Europe and North America to serve local markets. Upfield has shifted the brand's focus toward plant-based and sustainable ingredients, reinforcing its position as a leader in the plant-based food industry.
