Benadryl is a brand of antihistamine medications used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes. The active ingredient in Benadryl is diphenhydramine hydrochloride. The brand was originally developed by Parke-Davis, a pharmaceutical company, and was approved by the FDA in 1946. In 2006, Johnson & Johnson acquired Pfizer's consumer healthcare division, which included Benadryl, and subsequently spun off this division into a new company called Kenvue in 2023. Kenvue now owns the Benadryl brand. Benadryl products are primarily manufactured in the United States, but production also occurs in other countries to meet global demand.
