Bertolli is one of the world's most recognized olive oil brands, originally founded in Lucca, Tuscany, in 1865 by Francesco Bertolli and his wife Caterina. What began as a small trading store for local produce eventually specialized in olive oil, becoming the first to export the product to the United States to serve Italian immigrants. Over more than a century, the brand evolved from a family business into a global household name.

While the brand maintains its historical Italian identity, the manufacturing process for its mainstream 'Originale' lines typically involves a blend of oils sourced from multiple Mediterranean countries, including Spain, Greece, Tunisia, and Italy. This ensures a consistent flavor profile and stable supply throughout the year. The extraction process shown on the bottle—cold extraction—is a standard high-quality method used for Extra Virgin oils.

Ownership of the Bertolli brand has transitioned several times. Formerly part of the Unilever portfolio, the olive oil division was acquired by the Spanish multinational Deoleo S.A. (formerly SOS Cuétara). As of the mid-2020s, Deoleo remains the ultimate owner, managing the brand from its headquarters in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Spain. The brand continues to be marketed globally through various regional subsidiaries and distribution networks.
