Bacardi is one of the most iconic spirits brands in the world, founded in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba. The brand revolutionized the spirits industry by introducing charcoal filtration and purposeful aging, creating a smoother, light-bodied white rum that became a fundamental ingredient for classic cocktails like the Mojito and the Daiquiri.
Following the Cuban Revolution and the illegal confiscation of the company's assets in 1960, the Bacardí family moved operations entirely out of Cuba. Today, the world's largest premium rum distillery is located in Cataño, Puerto Rico, often referred to as the 'Cathedral of Rum.' The company has remained a family-owned enterprise for seven generations, maintaining its status as the largest privately held international spirits company in the world. Its headquarters were moved to Bermuda in 1965, serving as a global hub for its massive portfolio of brands.
