Marabou is a renowned Swedish chocolate brand established in 1916. The brand was created by Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, who had previously launched the same chocolate recipe in Norway under the name Freia. Due to the success of Freia in Norway, Holst expanded to Sweden, naming the Swedish branch Marabou after the stork in the logo. The initial production of Marabou chocolate began in 1919, following World War I cocoa shortages. Over time, Marabou has become a staple in Swedish confectionery, offering a variety of chocolate products. In 1993, Kraft Foods acquired Marabou, and in 2012, the brand became part of Mondelez International, a global leader in the snack industry. Today, Marabou continues to be produced in Sweden, maintaining its legacy as a beloved chocolate brand.
