Stetson's 'Boss of the Plains' hat became synonymous with the American West, featuring a high crown and wide brim. The company expanded rapidly, becoming the world's largest hat manufacturer by 1886. After John B. Stetson's death in 1906, the company continued to thrive but faced challenges in the mid-20th century, leading to a decline in hat sales. In the early 1970s, Stetson ceased production in Philadelphia and shifted to a licensing model. Today, Stetson hats are produced by Hatco, Inc. in Garland, Texas, under a licensing agreement.
